Most of the time its not through chance or even having great content. The number one factor is the number of incoming links a site has. Incoming or reciprocal links can move a site to the top of the search engines and make up to $10,000 a month for the right search terms.

As you may already know, reciprocal links form a vital part of any website promotion (especially if you want to get loads of free traffic). If you’ve read anything about Google Page Rank then you’ll already know how important incoming links are to the promotion of your site.

Explaining everything about reciprocal links is an impossible task, however, there’s no shortage of information on the topic – just do a search for ‘reciprocal links’ or ‘backlinks’ if you’re not clear on what they are. Simply put, the more people you have linking to your site from other well known sites with similar content, the more chances you have of getting to the top of the search engines.

Before we go any further, if you haven’t already got the Google Tool Bar you should download it from http://toolbar.google.com . You’ll notice (once you have the toolbar installed) that each page has on the Internet has a Google Page Rank. If your site is new, it won’t have any page rank. If you go to http://www.profitpuppy.com/ you will see that my site has a Page Rank (or PR) of 5 (which is reasonably high considering that I haven’t done any work promoting it).

Page Rank is determined (among other things) by the amount of incoming links to a particular site: you can check this buy typing in ‘link:’ and then the URL of a site (try typing link: http://www.profitpuppy.com/ into a Google search box and you will see that the Profit Puppy site has around 260 incoming links).

By increasing the number of quality sites that link to you (and subsequently the Page Rank of your site), the better chance you have of getting to the top of the search engines and getting loads of free traffic.

What’s the best way to get reciprocal links?

There’s a couple of different ways to get links to your site. You can either pay someone else to do it for you, or do it yourself (you can actually use a combination of these methods as well which I’ll also explain).

If you have the budget to get someone to exchange links for you then you can post a project on http://www.rentacoder.com/ (a site where you can hire freelance workers from all over the world). Finding someone who will email other site managers for you shouldn’t be a problem. You can hire someone for US$100 a week (or even cheaper) to exchange links for you fulltime. If you can’t afford this than an alternative is to pay someone only for the links that they get for you.

A smarter option (which is also more cost effective in the long run) is to use software to manage the link exchanging process for you. I’ve tried out a lot of these programs (including Zeus Internet Marketing Robot and few others). Most of them were complicated to use or didn’t get remarkable results.

One piece of software that I do recommend is Arelis by Axandra which automates searching for link partners, managing your links pages and emailing potential link partners. You can easily get hundreds of reciprocal links just by using Arelis for 1 hour each day. It really is a lazy way to get traffic to your site.

You can download a FREE trial of Arelis at [http://www.profitpuppy.com/axandra] (you can download a 30 day trial of Internet Business Promoter from this page as well).

Personally, I employ someone through http://www.rentacoder.com/ to get them to manage my links using Arelis software. This has been the most successful method so far and has helped me to get a number of my sites into the top of the search engines (sorry, I’m not telling which ones!).

Tips and Tricks for successful link exchanging:

-	You should use keywords that you are trying to rank for in your linking title (the text that will appear on other people’s sites).

-	Links should be on topic and from sites with related content.

-	Never link back to Link Farms (even if they link to you), this can result in the Google ‘Death Penalty’ which means your site may never be indexed properly again.

-	If you have more than one website with similar content try and do a triangle or ‘three way’ link exchange (this involves linking back to your link partners site from a different site to the one that they are linking to). There’s evidence to suggest that this type of link exchange is looked on more favorably by search engines than standard reciprocal links.

Finally, I’ve heard several rumors speculating that Google will be changing the way that reciprocal links affect Page Rank. For this reason, I would avoid putting your reciprocal links in a ‘links’ directory and definitely don’t call you links page ‘links.html’. Try and use something more descriptive like ‘resources’ to avoid Google penalties in the future.

In business, opportunities are everywhere whether you are buying a franchise opportunity or starting a business on your own. But for those who are entering the world of business for the first time everything can seem a little daunting. They will have to quickly grasp new skills and embrace change if they are to succeed in their first business.

Here is a typical scenario of someone starting out in business for the first time; a man is approaching his fortieth birthday and has managed to save some by working extremely hard. He has managed to almost clear his mortgage and is now fed up working long hours making someone else rich. He decides it is time to go into business for himself.

Now he is bewildered by the number of opportunities on offer. Should he start a home business or should he consider a franchise opportunity. Is it better to enter the retail trade or perhaps sell products via a website? It finally dawns on him that he does not have a clue about setting up a new business.

So how does one go about setting up a business for the first time? It is absolutely essential to learn the basics of business accounting. I am not saying that you have to an expert but just by reading one or two simple books you can get the basic understanding very quickly. Choose simple titles like Accounting for Dummies.

You can then create basic business plans and understand cashflow. This process will alone serve to clarify whether any business idea is worth pursuing further.

Start attending franchise exhibitions and speak to other franchise owners. By following this basic tip you will suddenly realise how many opportunities that are really out there. You will gain an understanding of what works and is profitable and the kinds of businesses to avoid with a barge pole. You will also get a feel for the type of business you can dedicate the next five years of your life to.

Do you have any hobbies that you can develop into a business? Are you passionate about anything? This is also a good starting point for developing a business idea. Again it is a good idea to attend the relevant exhibitions and buy the trade publications.

Speak to friends who own or manage businesses. If you dont have any friends who are in business make some new friends. Business mentors can very useful if you are starting up for the first time. They will be able to advice you through all the red tape and also how to get the best deals from your suppliers. They will be able to discuss with you at length how to deal with any staffing issues.

A business mentor can develop into a close friend. Both of you can lean on each other when times are hard and motivate each other when desire is low. Once you enter the business world and make friends with a business mentor then remember that most business people know a lot of other business people.

Start mixing in those circles and join some business networking organisations. All of a sudden you will not feel like you are not on your own. You can use your new friends to sound out any new ideas you have. You can discuss the intricacies of marketing and how to exploit any new opportunities that you spot.

Now that you have started your business always treat your customers with respect and give exemplary service. Large businesses with monopolies can get away with shoddy service. Your customers will not be so lenient with you.

Never become complacent once you reach a level of comfort. Small businesses are either moving forwards or they are declining. Very rarely do you see businesses that stand still and maintain their profitability and customer base.

Change can be very stressful, so it is imperative when starting a business to have an outlet for your stress and frustrations. Playing a sport regularly can definitely help. Remember it does not have to be an active sport if you are not into physical fitness. Snooker, bowling or even darts can help to alleviate the stresses and strains of business.

Learn some motivational phrases that will help you in times of need. Some of my favourites include:

Some will, some wont, so what move on – this phrase is especially useful if you are in direct selling.

CANI (constant and never ending improvement) – is especially useful when you are developing new products or working on long term plans.

Think and grow rich – this one helps you to realise that there is more to business than just working hard.

There is no such thing as failure in business only results – if you try something and it does not work you have succeeded in finding out how not to do it!

A stitch in time saves nine – deal with problems as soon as they arise, rather then waiting until they become huge problems.

Look before you leap – every time you have a new idea dont implement it straight away. Mull the idea round in your head and speak to your trusted business mentors. Do not worry about other people stealing your idea. They are far too busy running their own business and implementing their own ideas.

When the going gets tough the tough get going – this phrase is my all time favourite and has seen me through some very rough times.

Obviously this topic is so huge that it is difficult to analyse all the basics of starting and running your own business. This is where thirst for knowledge is essential. There are so many good business books out there. Reading a chapter a night will not only help to relax you but also open your business mind to new ways of thinking and working.

I will leave with one final saying, talk is cheap and actions speak louder than words. Over time and with action you can fine tune your business instincts to affectively utilise any business opportunity you spot.

//-->

Blogging has become very popular over the last decade. Many people blog for different reasons; some for fun and others for business. Some people blog about their daily lives and others will post useful content in which many people will share with their friends online. I just finished up some training that detailed exactly why a network marketer should have a blog as well as the steps that should be taken to implement that blog and what to do with it.

Blogging is important for any network marketer. Once someone hears about you the simplest way for them to find some information on your is buy completing a search on the internet. When your name comes up in the search, you will want them to see that you are committed to the business as well as the fact that you have your act together and know what you are doing in the MLM industry.

Another reason to why a network marketer should have their own blog is so that that they can generate leads for their MLM business. There are many people on the internet and it would be ideal for a network marketer to reach out to these people to become more successful. You can have more traffic going through your blog than you could talk to in a day. You should go and purchase your own domain name that has your personal name in it. Some varation of your name can be used should it already be taken. You will also need to host your own blog through wordpress. Your blog can never be shut down or changed without your permission if you host it yourself. You will not have any freedom in utilizing your blog effectively if you are dependent on someone else making sure it is running.

So know you are probably wondering what kind of content should be on this blog. Before placing any content on your blog you will need to figure out who your target audience is. Relevant content for your target will now need to be written. Every two to three days you should make sure some type of content is being placed onto your blog. It does not need to be perfect. About once a week you will then need to post some excellent content. You should spend a decent amount of time working on this content. This content should be something very helpful and will want people to share this

Now that you’ve got some content on your blog, how do you drive traffic to it? Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and LinkedIn among many others. profile on each of those sites through automated syndication. You will need to sign up for free accounts through twitterfeed.com and ping.fm. When this is setup your blog’s RSS feed will tell twitterfeed that an update has been made. Twitterfeed will then tell Ping.fm which broadcasts your new blog post to all of your social networking sites. You post the blog and everything is updated right away.

Other ways to get traffic is through organic search rankings. Search Engine Optimization can appear to be very difficult and complex until you actually know what Google is looking for in order to rank you. There are a variety of factors that Google uses in order to rank your website. Those factors include your keywords, meta title and meta description, as well as inbound and outbound links. Outbound links are those that you publish on your blog to other sites. This can hurt your search ranking. An incoming link is when someone places a link on the web directing back to your site.
An economy that’s growing at 8.5% and a very bright outlook for the future…that’s the India story at it’s best. But, the unmentioned success story, which in a way completes the picture, is the free press that our 60 year old democracy has managed to sustain.

Going back to 1870 when India’s first newspaper – The Bengal Gazette – to today’s plethora of newspapers and news channels; the media industry has come a long way. However, a little bit of analysis on the growth of media in India, who mostly serve India news reveals that the actual growth and the steep growth curve actually happened only later with the advent of the vernacular press.

This shift from the major languages, Hindi & English, towards regional languages made sense considering the diversity in the country. Here in India dialects change every few hundred kilometers and languages change from state to state. To effectively make people understand what all that’s important to them, news in one word, it was vital that they be addressed in their language.

That’s why, the vernacular press has done exceedingly well in India. The same idea was carried forward first by the radio and then by the visual media. No matter how important the national level news channels in Hindi and English may be, people across India do keep a tab on the news channels that offers them news in their own language. The common man simply loves to understand news in the language he is most comfortable in.

This way latest news India slowly became latest news from Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore etc.

Moreover, this localization of content also ensured that breaking news, the mainstay of a news channel, also got a local flavor. So, one has breaking news from Delhi or Mumbai etc. News was essentially local in nature but due to the localization of the channels content policy, such news also got prominence.

But the addition of more local content in a way is leading to the dilution of the media’s core competencies. That perfect balance between what’s important on a local level and what’s important when it came to the bigger picture was still wanting.

Welcome, to the world of Internet news. An arena where news is served piping hot, latest news and breaking news concepts work and at the same time a judicial mix between international, national, vernacular and local content could be achieved with finesse.

The Internet news model holds great promise for a country as diversified as India. News, anywhere, anytime is something this model can indeed deliver. However, on the flip side, the low penetration of Internet in India is slowing down the advent of the Internet arena in India. As of 2008, there are 60,000,000 Internet users-comprising 6.0% of the country’s population-in India.

But for Internet to perform at its best level there has to be a broadband connection. All that is considered as USPs of Internet; namely the seamless integration of content with video and a lot of interactivity thrown in, would perform at their optimum only on a super fast broadband connection.

There is a sense of inevitability to the world we live, what has to happen will eventually happen. If these prophetic words hold true for one change, certainly, then it is the advent of the era of Internet news in India. Wait & watch…the coming times are going to be exciting for news genre!

Music Success in Nine Weeks by Ariel Hyatt has just been released in its second edition. Many of you indie musicians have wondered if the book is worth the purchase, and I’d like to break down the chapters in order to help you make an informed decision. Ariel Hyatt is the founder of Ariel Publicity & Cyber PR, a New York-based digital firm that connects artists, authors and filmmakers to blogs, podcasts, Internet radio stations and social media sites. Over the past 13 years, her firm has represented over 1,400 musicians in all musical genres.

In my own career as an indie musician, I have had to be mindful of my business, not only my music. To be an indie musician requires an entrepreneurial mindset, and I read a lot of books on the music business, and being an entrepreneur that have helped me reach my goals.

As a client of Ariel’s, and an owner of the first edition of the first edition of Music Success in Nine Weeks, I was eager to learn how the editions differed from each other. While the concept of breaking tasks into nine weeks is the same, it is obvious to me that the second edition has even more meat than the first.

Week 1: Getting Mentally Prepared

The first week of Ariel’s Music Success in Nine Weeks program is all about setting goals, and getting into the right mindset. The music business is not for the lazy or weak-hearted, and you need to be prepared for the long haul. This means getting into the correct mindset for success, and creating realistic goals that you can work towards.

Week 2: Your Perfect Pitch

The second week teaches you how to create an elevator pitch: a description of your music that you can easily repeat in the time it takes to travel one floor of an elevator to another. The best music pitch is memorable, and one that you are happy to use again and again.

Week 3: Optimizing Your Website

The purpose of your music website is not just to hold music clips and display your next gig date. Your website needs to pull potential fans in, and enable them to join your cause. Ariel offers practical suggestions for how your website can be used to build your fanbase.

Week 4: Social Media For Musicians

With social networking sites like MySpace, Facebook, and Twitter, the potential to build a global audience via the internet has grown exponentially. Week 4 of Music Success in Nine Weeks defines “Web 2.0″, and shows you which social media sites a musician needs to create an online presence.

Week 5: Blogging

Back in the day, a static website containing your music, photo, and bio was enough. Having a blog on your website enables you to show your personality, connect with other bloggers, and also be found by search engines. Week 5 explains the importance of having a website that updates frequently so that your fans can return to your site, and connect with you.

Week 6: Connecting with Fans Via Your Newsletter List and Conducting Surveys

Your band newsletter can be used for more than blasting out the dates for your next gig. Your newsletter should be used to build and grow your relationship with your fans. Once your have their trust, you can also reach out to them to ask them what they want from you. It’s a lot better than guessing.

Week 7: How to Build Your Mailing List

Once you have an email list, it’s also important to add more names each month. Week 7 shows you tips and tricks to grow a healthy fan email list.

Week 8: Real Live Networking Tips

In addition to having an online presence, it is still important for musicians to meet people offline, and make connections with them. Week 8 teaches you how to make an authentic connection in person.

Week 9: Creating a Continuum Program

As enlightening as the rest of this book is, in my opinion, Week 9 of Music Success in Nine Weeks is the high point of the book. Once you build your fanbase, and have permission to contact them regularly, it’s time to get your fans to purchase merch from you on a regular basis. Whether it’s CDs, t-shirts, or any other kind of band swag, creating a product line will make the difference in your band’s bottom line.

Another bonus of purchasing Ariel Hyatt’s Music Success in Nine Weeks is that you get free lifetime membership to Ariel’s closed online Mastermind Forum. In the forum you meet other musicians like yourself who are working the program, and you have the added support of Ariel and her staff. In the spirit of full disclosure, I am also one of her forum moderators, but as a musician myself, I receive as much as I give, and I recommend Ariel Hyatt’s book and services to any musician who wants to take their career to the next level.

Looking for some quick website traffic? Put down your Adwords for a moment and let’s talk about some of the most underestimated sources of traffic out there. These are sources that my website has benefitted greatly from, and will cost you nothing more than a little time and effort.

1. Link Exchanges – One of the most underestimated traffic sources is the link exchange. I don’t see nearly as many ad campaigns that feature link exchanges as I used to. It’s a shame too, as this can be a great source of free traffic, and it doesn’t cost you a cent.

Usually I initiate a link exchange by going to a forum like Money Maker Group and finding people who are promoting websites with content that is relative to mine. I tend to get best results from people who have just launched their site, as they’re looking for any way to get free traffic. I offer to put their link on my front page if they’ll put mine on theirs. As a result of our agreement to display one anothers links, we have created free sources of traffic for our websites. And…it works.

I recently made a link exchange for my home business site that brings me several visitors per day. While it’s not as impressive as being featured in Yahoo or Google’s top 10 search results, it is a good way to secure a steady source of traffic that you might otherwise not get. If you have just recently launched your website, I would highly recommend this method to you.

2. Forum Promotion – My website is still not listed on any of the major search engines, because I’m too cheap to pay big bucks for a sure listing, and it hasn’t been up long enough to be listed via the free submission method. Because of the fact that I’m cheap, I’m doing everything I can to promote cheaply. Other than link exchanges, the best method I’ve found is forum promotion.

While a link exchange is a way to passively bring more traffic to your site, forum promotion requires more activity. Put your URL in your forum signature if it’s allowed. Your signature alone is enough to guarantee some visitors. Better yet is to find forums pertaining to the product that you’re selling on your website and promote your site there. New threads will bump old ones to the bottom, so you have to work in new ways to promote your site without spamming the forum. This can be tricky, as many forums will have rules for advertising your website. With proper care, and a little trial and error, you will see the traffic begin to pour in.

Getting traffic to your website can be a big job. Yes, there are easy ways…which cost big money! If you’ve got the time and the inclination, I think you’ll be pleased with the results that you can get from these two free methods.

You do have an MLM blog don’t you?

If you are not blogging, you are missing out on the worldwide reach a blog can give you. Furthermore, creating and maintaining a blog is far easier, quicker and cheaper compared with running a website.

If you are building an MLM business online, or any online business for that matter, you completely and positively ought to have your own blog. Even if you are just starting your online MLM ventures, you ought to learn how to setup your own blog as soon as you can. There are excellent free resources on the internet that will teach you all about blogging. It is recommended not to pay for information on how to setup a blog as that sort of information is freely available on thousands of websites on the internet.

Network Marketing victory is achieved by leaders and all the MLM leaders have their own MLM blogs. That’s because a blog establishes you as an expert in your field, an authority if you wish.

Your MLM blog is your central hub and all your online marketing ought to point back to it and once your blog starts getting traffic, your next task is to convert that traffic into whatever action you would like your visitors to take.

When your Network Marketing blog is in place, one of the first things you want to do is register it with Technorati. Technorati is an internet search engine for blogs and has millions of blogs indexed in their database. You need them to index your Network Marketing blog because that will increase your blog’s exposure.

Here are the steps to follow to put your MLM blog on the technorati site:

Evidently, the first step you will want to take is to open an account with Technorati, if you don’t already have one, and like many great resources on the internet, it is totally free.

This step is very simple, just proceed to their site and click the “Join” link at the top right of the page. Fill out the form with your information and click the join button. They will then send you an email with a link you need to click to verify your account. This completes your registration with Technorati.

The next step is to revise your settings, your bio, and uploading your picture. Don’t skip this step like most people. It is important that you let the world know who you are. You’re building an MLM business remember?

Lastly, there’s an option that will let you “claim your blog” to verify that it is actually yours. This step is a bit more involved as you have to get a code from technorati and then include that code into a post on your blog so they can send their spiders and confirm that the code is in fact present someplace on your Network Marketing blog.

There you have it. Your MLM blog is now known by the biggest blog search engine on the internet.

In the early 70s there was a book published by Glenn Bland, called “Success! The Glenn Bland Method. This little 175 page handbook as fundamental skills and systems for succeeding. Glenn Bland became a very successful person in the Life Insurance industry, but his thoughts and ideas are easily transferable to any endeavor that someone wishes to partake in.

Granted the book is a bit dated since its first copyright was in 1972, but success is universal. One thing that Glenn addresses very directly is the mindset of success. Much of what he talks about harkens back to think and grow Rich by Napoleon Hill for example anything you can think of believing you can achieve. Another idea is that men with goals and plans dictate to others while men who have no goals and plans are dictated to. And also the concept of quit thinking about all the reasons you can’t do something and think of all the reasons why you can.

Mr. Bland and had quite a bit of research, no doubt, not directly for this book to but just to be successful in his life. One thing he says is you are the sum total of your thoughts, if you think a negative terms you will achieve negative results but if you think in positive terms you will achieve positive results. In short “We become what we think about.” He quoted Emerson who said “a man is what he thinks about all day long.” He also quoted from Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius who said “a man’s life is what his thoughts make of it.” Another quote that I liked in the book was from William James who said “The greatest discovery of my generation is that human beings can alter the lives by altering their attitudes of mind.”

If you are a student of success and wish to read another book with some good ideas of how to succeed in whatever endeavors he you are taking on Success! The Glenn Bland Method, how to set goals and make plans that really work, maybe just the book you are looking for.
